The Form of the Day
In dialogue with her instrument, sonic landscapes emerge in which subtlety and brutality coexist simultaneously.
Andrea Neumann studied classical piano at the Universität der Künste Berlin. She lives and works in Berlin as a musician and composer in the field of contemporary and experimental music. Since 2020 she has been teaching Open Creation/Improvisation at the FHNW University of Music in Basel.
Since 1996 she has developed and performed her own instrument, the so-called Innenklavier (“inside piano”): an aluminum frame with strings, played through preparations and amplified via a mixer and various pickups.
As a composer and performer, she is a central figure in Berlin’s Echtzeitmusik scene, both as a solo artist and in numerous ensembles. Her works — including the trio Contagious (with Mieko Suzuki and Sabine Ercklentz) — move between electronic music, improvisation, composition, performance, and sound art.
