At the core of Sonic Alchemy lies electroacoustic improvisation as an open and process-based practice. Natalie Peters’ voice, instruments, and electronics enter into an equal dialogue in which sound is understood as a fluid and constantly evolving material. Voice, instrument, and electronics interact on equal terms, forming a dynamic system where sonic matter is continuously reshaped in real time through improvisation.

sOnic alchemy is an electroacoustic improvisation project by Berlin-based musicians Sofia Borges and Klaus Janek, working at the intersection of acoustic sound research, electronic processing, and spontaneous form-building.
Together with vocalist Natalie Peters, the project expands into a trio formation in which voice, body, and technology enter into an intense sonic dialogue. The result is a focused listening experience, suspended between fragility and density, combining experimental depth with poetic openness.
sOnic alchemy is an open project that explores dialogue between sound sources, bodies, technologies, and artistic perspectives. In autumn 2024, the duo first met vocalist Natalie Peters during a concert in Locarno. From this encounter emerged an intense collaboration that led to a recording session at MorphinRaum in Berlin (release planned for 2026).
Peters’ voice expands the electroacoustic structure of sOnic alchemy with an autonomous dimension — both sonically and performatively — defined by presence, precision, and the ability to render the unpredictable audible.
Sofia Borges
Sofia Borges, born in Portugal, lives in Berlin where she works as a drummer, percussionist, composer, and improviser. She is considered one of the key figures in the current European experimental performance and sound landscape.
Her work moves between free improvisation, electroacoustic music, and performance. Borges is part of the Berlin Echtzeitmusik scene and performs internationally in diverse contexts from solo concerts to interdisciplinary projects and festivals such as CTM Festival, Jazzfest Berlin, and WOMAD.
Through her distinctive combination of percussion, objects, electronics, and voice, she creates dense, experimental sonic spaces rich in both poetry and precision.

Klaus Janek
Klaus Janek (born in Bolzano, Italy) lives and works in Berlin, where he has been part of the Echtzeitmusik scene since the mid-1990s.
After early studies in flute and trumpet, he devoted himself entirely to double bass in 1988, studying with Mauro Muraro. Workshops with musicians such as Dave Holland, Peter Kowald, Butch Morris, and Jaribu Shahid significantly shaped his artistic development.
Janek’s central practice is electroacoustic improvisation: he combines acoustic double bass with live electronics, expanding the instrument’s sonic language and shaping music in the very moment of listening and creation.
His solo series Almenrauschen comprises five LPs of deep sonic landscapes ranging from drone to dense timbral modulation and free formal construction. He has performed at international festivals including Vision Festival NYC, CTM, Impulstanz Vienna, transmediale, White Nights Montréal, and Gropius Bau Berlin.
He also composes for dance, theatre, sound installations, and radio productions, including work for the Thierry Niang Company and documentaries for ARTE, ZDF, and 3sat. He frequently collaborates with artists such as Meg Stuart, Sandeep Bhagwati, Milena Kipfmüller, and Claudio Rocchetti.

Natalie Peters is a vocalist, performer, and curator based in Locarno, working internationally at the intersection of free improvisation, vocal art, and performative research.
Her practice explores the human voice as an immediate and mutable instrument, suspended between raw material and poetry, intuition and structure. She performs both solo and in interdisciplinary formations.
