The tanbur is a long-necked string instrument from the Turkish tradition. Merve Salgar approaches it both through the historical perspective of Ottoman music and by exploring its experimental potential.
Together with cellist Anıl Eraslan, she creates an intense and immersive sonic universe that intertwines traditional roots with contemporary practice, shaping a musical language in which memory and experimentation coexist.
Velvele is a duo composed of musicians of Turkish origin, currently active between Strasbourg, Berlin, and Istanbul. Their work develops between tradition and experimentation, weaving together forms of Turkish classical and folk music with contemporary languages.
Through the dialogue between two instruments, the sonic field is continuously shared and reshaped — sometimes in conflict, sometimes in resonance, but always within a threshold space where opposition and unity are constantly redefined.
In this slowed-down temporal flow, the duo invites deep listening to the full expressive and chromatic richness of sound, leading the listener through in-between spaces stretching across the Bosphorus, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean, and beyond — toward poetic, unnameable landscapes.
