Cyril Bondi and Laurent Peter, aka d’incise, are distinguished by a deep aesthetic understanding of musical openness, collective creativity, and profound social engagement. Their work demonstrates that music can be not only an aesthetic experience but also a force for societal impact.
As founders of INSUB. and the Insub Meta Orchestra (IMO), and as initiators of numerous interdisciplinary projects, they have established structures where artistic freedom, collaborative work, and social responsibility merge in a unique way. Their practice is based on openness, improvisation, and long-term structural development, closely linking artistic creation with political, social, and organizational processes.
Cyril Bondi
Cyril Bondi is a drummer, percussionist, and improvisational and experimental musician, recognized as a leading figure in the contemporary Swiss music scene. His work combines sonic research, improvisation, and political practice.
Bondi’s political engagement is an integral part of his artistic work. He treats organization, mediation, and cultural-political action as creative processes that are as much a part of his music as the musical production itself. His focus lies on collective working methods, networking of actors, and creating conditions under which musicians can work autonomously, safely, and sustainably.
d’incise
Laurent Peter, known as d’incise, works at the intersection of electronic and acoustic music. His practice moves beyond conventional forms and is characterized by experimentation, material research, and process-oriented work. Sound is treated as a process, revealing hidden dimensions and creating a dense, immersive atmosphere.
Alongside his artistic work, d’incise is politically committed to fair working conditions, anti-racism, and anti-discrimination. Aesthetic openness and social responsibility are closely intertwined in his practice.
INSUB. – Network, Label, and Platform
Founded by Bondi and d’incise, INSUB. is a network, label, and organizational platform for experimental music. It provides infrastructure, support, and visibility for musicians and projects, enabling long-term collaborative work.
INSUB. serves as a space for artistic research, collective decision-making, and socially conscious practice. Activities range from releases and concerts to interdisciplinary formats. Out of INSUB. grew the INSUB. Collective, a continuously active group of musicians under the artistic direction of Bondi and d’incise, whose projects combine composition, improvisation, and thematic exploration of social and political issues.
Insub Meta Orchestra (IMO)
The Insub Meta Orchestra brings together musicians from rock, jazz, classical, and contemporary music. The ensemble works with open scores as well as composed and improvised elements. Releases such as Exhaustion / Proliferation (2025) document this exploratory approach.
For their work with the Insub Meta Orchestra, Cyril Bondi and d’incise were awarded the Swiss Music Prize in 2025—a recognition of their innovation, interdisciplinary practice, and the unique connection between music and social impact.
