The Werkstatt für Improvisierte Musik Bern (WIM Bern) has been active since 1982 and has since established itself as a key institution in the Swiss music landscape. It provides a continuous space for contemporary and improvised music creation and serves as a central meeting point for musicians who wish to explore experimental sounds and develop new forms of musical interaction.
WIM Bern organizes around 20 concerts annually and a biennial festival with a thematic focus. The stage welcomes both local and international artists, fostering encounters between musicians and audiences. Monthly open workshops and annual masterclasses with renowned figures from the free improvisation scene promote exchange, education, and artistic experimentation.
In addition to its artistic work, WIM Bern is strongly committed to education and social integration. Through workshops, outreach projects, and participatory formats, it opens access to music, fosters cultural understanding, and creates spaces for shared experiences. In this way, improvised music remains closely connected to society, with listening, empathy, and collective experience actively lived.
Carovana091 is very pleased to collaborate with WIM Bern as part of We See You. In this project, musicians respond to current events in Gaza, creating musical expressions that make solidarity audible.
In Bern, the audience will experience a high-caliber line-up: Rebecca Minten (bass clarinet), Luz Gonzales (electronics), Christian Kobi (saxophone), Thomas Canna (percussion), Thomas Rohrer (raven, saxophone, objects), Biliana Voutchkova (violin, voice), Natalie Peters (voice), Sabine Vogel (flute), Klaus Filip (electronics), and Sebastian Rotzler (double bass).
The renowned violinist Biliana Voutchkova curates the concert in Bern, shaping intimate sound spaces in which every gesture responds to the theme of Gaza.
The project demonstrates impressively that even niche art is connected to society, creating an invaluable space where listening and empathy remain alive.
It is an honor for us to present WIM Bern on our platform and make their continuous activity publicly known.
